GES-2

I haven’t been inside GES-2, but I was really eager to see how the space of the pre-revolutionary hydroelectric power station in the center of Moscow has been transformed.

Remember how I recently wrote about Istanbul Airport? Well, the impressions are similar. A colossal internal volume that doesn’t feel oppressive at all. Glass, multi-level design, Shukhov’s trusses, high-tech fillings, and at the same time, historical artifacts all in one location. And the signature feature — the blue pipes. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve already appeared on Moscow’s magnets (you can view the exterior of the project here).

PS You can love art spaces for the fact that they are like Kinder Surprise: you don’t know what’s inside, but there’s definitely something interesting. Recently, GES-2 has become a favorite spot for a film studio making a remake of Santa Barbara. As "Meduza" (✴) says: "It's like theater, but better."
