Bosphorus Air Hub

Ph: K. Gorozhanin
Location: Istanbul

I think a short break is needed before the final sprint through the quality criteria cycle. I just remembered that I have a couple of shots from a quick shoot of one of the largest air hubs when I was flying to Lviv.

Istanbul Airport opened in October 2018. Exactly a month before its opening, I managed to catch the old hub, which was also quite large. The new one, with its lengthy travelators, can compete with Charles de Gaulle in Paris. If you have a 40-minute layover, keep in mind — it takes about the same time to get from the arrival point to the transfer gates. Quite an adrenaline-filled run with last calls flashing on the boards.

The vast internal spaces covered with elegant arched vaults are striking. The theme of the yellow farms references the equally famous Madrid-Barajas Airport. The difference is that inside Istanbul’s hub, the internal structure doesn’t feel oppressive, even though you feel like a tiny grain inside.
