Architecture: MONO Architekten

The theme of pigmented concrete is independently generating project ideas for me. While preparing this issue, I decided to read the comments from the architects at MONO just in case. Until the last moment, I was convinced that a certain type of block clinker was used for the cladding of this object. But, as you might have guessed, it turned out to be a guest from the previous publication!
The curious features don't end there. During the preparation for a large exhibition, the city allocated a plot to the architects with the goal of connecting the historic center with the natural park area. It was important to create a new central recreation point. It may seem that there are countless implementation options, but the task is quite non-trivial.
The height difference was creatively addressed through a stylobate, where the upper level formed a recreation area and the lower level housed a large parking facility. A brilliant solution: upon entering the city via a major junction, you direct your car to a huge guest parking lot; the stylobate acts as a buffer, shielding residents from traffic noise while a park area emerges on the upper level. A tall tower, connected by a bridge, ensures pedestrian safety from the center to the natural part of the city. It also becomes a landmark and viewpoint, complementing rather than disturbing the panorama of the old city. Das ist gut.
