Analysis of initial information and calculation of rendering time

Cycle: Architectural Animation

We have a detailed guide on our channel based on static source materials. It is suitable for animation, but two points are important to add to it.

Initial data for animation:
1−10. General points with statics
11.Duration
12.Animation objects (people, trees, cars, infographics, etc.)

We will discuss the 12th point in detail in the relevant chapter. Therefore, we will focus on the Duration (chron).

The chron can consist of two blocks:
  • Footage
  • 3D part

Footage refers to stock video or direct object shooting for editing in 3D or to showcase the environment and atmosphere.

The 3D part includes everything that is created and rendered in a 3D editor.

Knowing the overall chron and the final format of the clip, you can determine the number of frames and the time required for calculation. This is important for understanding deadlines or costs for a render farm in the absence of one.

Example:
The clip consists of 30 seconds of 3D, in 1920×1080 resolution, 25 frames per second.

Total number of frames:
30×25 = 750 frames

Estimating rendering time:
Suppose one frame in the final format at 3990x resolution will take 5−7 minutes to render.

Total time for the final calculation will be:
750x (5−7 minutes) = 3750−5250 minutes = 2.6−3.6 days

PS When estimating deadlines, don’t forget about the existence of previews.
