Architecture: Vandkunsten Architects
Project: Housing in Bispevika
Ph: Rasmus Hjortshøj
Location: Oslo, Norway
Orderly chaos — this is the description that comes to mind when viewing the panorama or plan of this quarter. The asymmetrical shapes of the buildings coexist so well that from a distance, they resemble mountains or fjords more than a cityscape. A distinctive feature of the project is the fully-fledged inner courtyard water canals, akin to those in Venice. However, here, unlike Italy, residents prefer to reach their living rooms not by gondolas but by kayaks.
The subdued stone-like exterior finishing, sloping roofs, random distribution of windows, balconies, and terraces are also worth mentioning. All these elements further strengthen the association with natural themes.
I haven’t seen such a collection of unusual solutions in residential development for a long time. Such designs are not even remotely present in our market. Esteemed developers, take note.
