You may have seen this project before, but I would like to feature it in the magazine. Interestingly, during the selection process for the magazine team, this project was chosen several times as a topic for a test task.
Nestled between rounded cliffs and the Red Sea, it resembles the planet Tatooine from Star Wars. It’s fascinating to see how architects play with volume in an environment where you wouldn’t expect to see man-made structures.
Excavated rock was used to form the construction. The imitation of natural ventilation tunnels in the cliffs and light wells all contribute to sustainability principles.
It reminds me of the Nabateans, who hid their temples in valleys like the city of Petra in Jordan. From what I’ve seen with my own eyes, I recommend checking out another Tatooine-like landscape at Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. It’s closer and just as futuristic!
