Himalayas Center

When I first saw the project, I thought it was a set of renders: this residential complex looks too futuristic. (By the way, the project looked even more fantastic at the visualization stage.) An association flashed in my mind with the Donstroy Symbol in Troika. However, unlike the capital project, the Chinese brothers clearly did not limit the imagination of MAD architects. The second association is the recently completed long-term construction Azabudai Hills in Japan. I’m not just listing my first thoughts. According to MAD’s concept, the idea of the project, and its very name, refer to the Himalayas. The mountains are the source of inspiration for the concept. But this associative series doesn’t quite come together for me.

Leaving aside conceptual questions, the master plan and architecture look interesting. The bionic form nicely breaks up the space of concrete boxes (look at the bird), and even the low-rise courtyard volume with traditional Chinese architecture looks appropriate.

The only thing lacking that distinguishes the implementation from the original concept is greenery. In my opinion, the greenery is not to scale, and if it were 5−7 meters higher, the architecture would play differently.

The project evokes mixed feelings in me; something is clearly missing.
