Project: Harbin Opera House
Architect: MAD Architects
Photo: Pawel Paniczko
Geo: Harbin, CH
Seeing photos of the Harbin Opera House, I experienced déjà vu. As it turned out, not without reason. In the summer, we published a similar project of a congress center, also in Harbin and also by MAD Architects. I checked the maps to see if they were part of a single complex. It turns out, they’re not. They are almost 200 km apart.
Despite the fact that the Congress Center is located in a small suburb, the presence of an object there, resonant with the Opera and created by the same architect, forms a unified code, firmly establishing itself in the minds of travelers to this region. Just like with déjà vu: never having visited Harbin, a strong association formed in my mind that there is something similar in this region. Imagine the impact of seeing these objects in person.
Such objects should impress and be memorable. They form important associations and make cities unique.
