GORK JOURNAL

Models. A Study

Artplace: Garage
Location: Gorky Park, Moscow

While passing by the Garage in PG yesterday, I noticed several large models behind glass. Curious, I discovered that these models are the creation of the Japanese firm SANAA. Nothing extraordinary, honestly. A clear example of how one can feel the shape through the volume. Despite their sketchy format, the models became part of an exhibition narrating how architects, with the help of a photographer, extracted additional information from the material. SANAA invited Thomas Demand, who photographed the models and identified details of visible imperfections in the pictures, allowing for adjustments or changes in form. There’s little beauty in sketch models, but I decided to practice finding interesting visual angles for this volume.

P. S. By the way, SANAA is one of the authors of the "water building" in Paris, which we recently wrote about.
