Project: Vancouver House
Architecure: BIG
Geo: Canada, CA
I came across an interesting project by BIG and spent a long time figuring out how to comment on it. So much has been written and said about Bjarke Ingels' firm that I hardly think I can add anything intelligent. Therefore, I will try to simply capture my feelings.
My lack of thoughts about BIG’s architecture is also due to the fact that it’s simply impossible to "get to the bottom" of it. The interconnections, balance, and co-scale at all levels and in all senses: between the object, within it, and with what surrounds it. Methodical breaking down from the general to the specific begins with the scale of the situation and ends with a distance of a couple of meters. For example, up close you see a hanging elegant form. From the alley, it forms a parametric cantilever. Looking at the building from the windows of an office opposite, you notice that the cantilever is part of the transport infrastructure, which allows moving the windows of apartments away from the road to a regulatory distance. This reminds me of infinity zoom drawings.
The most interesting thing: each BIG project finds space for such unique solutions. That’s exactly why BIG is loved.
P. S. Also, Bjarke outwardly reminds me of Musk))
