In today’s Projects of the Week digest, architecture is built around movement—of people, light, air and energy, turning the journey through a building into one of the main tools for organizing space.
A Museum Wrapping Around the Forest
Lola Mora Cultural Center | Pelli Clarke & Partners | San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina
The final project by architect César Pelli is located in a subtropical forest at the foot of the Andes. The curved building wraps around the existing trees, while a bridge over a natural ravine leads to the main entrance. The center is dedicated to Argentine sculptor Lola Mora and brings six of her monumental Carrara marble works together under one roof. The building is designed to achieve net-zero energy, with wind turbines and solar panels incorporated into its energy system.
A Nuclear Fusion Funnel
Tianfu Fusion Technology Research Center | CSWADI | Chengdu, China
The controlled nuclear fusion research center is arranged inside a ring measuring 100 meters in diameter. At its center is a hyperboloid light well extending from the roof to the underground level. The central space is connected to the research buildings by radial bridges. The form refers both to the physics of nuclear fusion and to the traditional courtyards with skylights found in Sichuan houses.
A Staircase Inside a Triangle
Koma Commercial Facility | U.GA Architects | Busan, South Korea
This triangular commercial building has an area of 51 m². The architects made visitor movement the basis of the project’s visual identity: a red spiral staircase can be seen through the transparent facade, connecting all levels of the building and leading to the rooftop terrace.
A Pavilion Unfolding Like a Lotus
Lotus Shala | Pablo Luna Studio | Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
The 125 m² pavilion for yoga, meditation and retreats is built entirely from bamboo. Arched beams form an envelope resembling lotus petals, while the structure is integrated into the site’s natural topography. The pavilion has almost no exterior walls, allowing the surrounding tropical landscape to become part of its interior space.
A House Without Artificial Light

The winner of the international Home of Shadows competition explores whether it is possible to build a fully functioning home without artificial lighting. In the project, natural light becomes the main tool for organizing space: the position of openings, courtyards and passageways determines how the interior changes throughout the day.
A Vertical Neighborhood
Bihailou Art Village | MVRDV | Shenzhen, China
The project develops the idea of the Vertical Village—an attempt to transfer the density of a large urban neighborhood into a vertical structure. The 6,500 m² cultural and commercial complex consists of seven levels of separate volumes containing a theater, museum, shops and restaurants, connected by a vertical network of streets, bridges, staircases and terraces.
