I would never have believed that the massive structure from the selection is a port terminal. Its overly elegant form, characteristic of art-category objects, and the deliberately restrained materials in graphite tones seem like a smirk at plain gray office buildings. I vaguely remember only a couple of terminals for ocean liners that I have seen in person. They looked, to put it mildly, less festive and were purely technical constructions. This is not an airport!
Looking at the Port of Kaohsiung, it seemed to me that the architects decided to ponder the ideas of the iconic Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao within the theme of multifunctional complexes. Upon closer examination of photos from the water side, it becomes clear that the main functional docking block with sleeves is placed in the format of a rectangular stylobate, while all the exuberance of the structure blooms above it.
Despite the project being completed two years ago, there are few mentions of it online. There are also hardly any photos. However, it is an important reference when designing objects of this class and functionality.
PS If we have fans of port terminals or lovers of ocean liners, please share what modern structures of this kind are like in major ports?
