The Ideal Form for Contemplation

Architecture: Kengo Kuma and Associates & Mad Arkitekter & Buro Happold Engineering
Project: Ibsen Library
Location: Skien, Norway

The shape of a curved gallery, forming an inner courtyard park space, is a natural cinema that sets the mood for intellectual activity.

In our practice, we have encountered this form several times and even visualized an educational center in Nizhny Novgorod with a similar gallery. We will publish it tomorrow.

Based on our subjective statistics, it can be concluded that most such projects are either libraries, scientific centers, or museum-memorial complexes. By the way, the Apple campus designed by Norman Foster is built on the same principle. From all the above, it can be concluded that the form of a cylindrical gallery can serve as a good stimulator of brain activity.

It would be nice to find such an office for ourselves :)
