Mexican Babylon in the rose style

I’ve been looking at this project for a long time: it’s unclear whether it’s a render or AI. But after it caught my eye for the third time, I decided to read about it. It turned out that the collection of images is photos of the actual implementation.

Long-time readers of the magazine are aware of Spanish architect Bofill and kO his works, to which I have a strong affinity. Let’s add another project by Mexican architects from V Taller to the collection. We have a multifunctional complex where the centerpiece is a tower with narrow window openings, surrounded by a moat and inspired by the mythical Babylon. It sounds grand, but the grandeur of the idea is softened by the "soft pink" color of the lime plaster (forgive me, lovers of 50 shades of pink🩷, but the original uses "soft pink"). The solution works well, breaking up the composition with a pattern of toy-like volume that I admire in Bofill’s La Muralla Roja and similar projects.

I’d also like to note that the facade covering is traditional Yucatecan lime plaster called chukum, which is applied over reinforced concrete. It retains moisture, stabilizes temperature, and requires almost no maintenance (with a lifespan of up to 100 years!).
