Caustics

Following up on yesterday’s post, I’d like to add a term like caustics to the journal. And send the link to clients when appropriate.

Caustics is the reflection of light from a wavy surface. The most common case is water.

Given the largely ascetic nature of interiors with swimming pools, caustics can quite effectively, and most importantly, appropriately enliven a render.

Moderate ripples or waves, light, and a surface for reflection are all it takes for this picturesque phenomenon to occur.

Considering our urban specifics, caustics are a rare guest in our renders. However, we have applied it when working with, for example, swimming pools or bridges.
