GORK JOURNAL

ZVON

Location: Pyatnitskaya St. 4/2, bldg. 9

What I love about carrying my camera everywhere is the chance to unexpectedly access off-limits places. An architectural journal only aids in this venture.

A funny incident occurred a few days ago. On my way to the office, at the very start of Pyatnitskaya Street, there's a coffee shop located in a tall bell tower, aptly named Zvon. The temples in this alley were first mentioned in the chronicles of 1415. And Shekhtel contributed to their restoration in the 1900s.

We occasionally publish articles about unique religious projects. However, they're all foreign. I've always been dismayed by the fact that our Russian Orthodox Church is too conservative, alien to all things modern.

But this coffee shop proves otherwise. Inside, there are no incense or other church attributes, but rather a modern interior and delicious coffee.

Barista Lev gave a tour to the very top. Thanks to the guys, I’m attaching the views.
