Moscow Model

I made it to this "wonder of the world" at a 1:400 scale yesterday. The model is situated deep within VDNH in a separate round pavilion and occupies all its internal space. The team working on the model says that they’ll soon need to change the venue because there’s a need to display details, including the area beyond the Third Transport Ring.

The modular structure, consisting of square blocks, allows for quick changes and the addition of new sections. There was even a practice of transporting the model to other exhibitions. The main difficulty here is the challenge of discerning details in the center (seriously, it’s hard to make out without binoculars). And despite the information panels that zoom you into the selected object through cameras, you still want to observe them not through a screen, but in person.

The model developers mentioned that an obvious solution would be to create a glass floor, but the mass of electronics and lights inside the buildings, the model’s fragility, and the structure of the glass floor currently make this idea impractical to implement. I would have never thought a model could raise such issues.

Another interesting fact is that work on the model has been ongoing since 2012, and all details were already being printed on 3D printers back then. Now I understand why Mosarchitecture is collecting digital copies of developers' projects in their archives) At least, almost all new residential complexes within the Garden Ring are present on the model.

PS A bit of constructive criticism. The general lighting needs to be readjusted. The detailing is fantastic, but it’s spoiled by the unnatural light filled with shades from the entire RGB spectrum.
